This is the new Pininfarina Pura Vision SUV, a striking new electric car concept which previews the Italian brand’s future.
Described by its makers as a ‘luxury utility vehicle’ the Pura Vision concept will heavily influence Pininfarina’s line-up of pure electric luxury models.
-
The Pura Vision SUV concept was first teased back in 2020, with the firm's design chief Luca Borgono hinting that the car would enter production and cost from around £300,000.
At present there are no plans to turn the concept into a customer car, with the sole purpose of the Pura Vision to showcase design ideas that we will see on future models.
-
Measuring 5215mm in length, 2147mm in width and 1641mm in height, the radical concept is longer and wider than both the Lotus Eletre and Polestar 3.
-
The high-riding machine features a rakish silhouette which has been created using lightweight materials such as carbonfibre, with the Pura Vision’s low front end and flare arches inspired by the 1947 Cisitalia 202, the first car to be displayed at the Museum of Modern art in New York.
-
At the rear, the blade headlights are mirrored by a pair of ultra-thin LED tail lights, while a large diffuser sits below the boot lid.
-
The roof is made almost entirely from glass, with its dome-like construction inspired by the 1953 Alfa Romeo 6C 3000 Superflow concept. Pininfarina previously said that he was working to bring the glass roof into production so that occupants would feel more connected to their surroundings.
-
In keeping with the Pura Vision's striking design language, the car gets rear-hinged suicide doors, while glass windows on the upper part of the car open upwards for a full and uninterrupted view of the cabin.
-
Inside the Pura Vision takes on a minimalist approach and features a large touchscreen infotainment display which rises from the central column – this will likely be carried over into the firm's future luxury models.
Audio systems have been integrated into the headrests and a wine cooler, a feature normally found in ultra-luxury models from brands like Rolls Royce and Bentley.
-
The new concept is significantly different to Pininfarina's halo hyper EV, the Battista, and features 'floating' front seats and a swooping rear bench inspired by sailing boats. The lower roofline is to give the Pura Vision a more sporting feel.
-
Pininfarina hasn’t revealed any details on the powertrain, but the concept first seen in 2020 had a 1000bhp electric powertrain and a range of up to 340 miles. The firm claimed the Pura Vision could sprint from 0-62mph in around 3.0sec and reach a top speed of 186mph.
-
The new SUV concept will make its public debut at Monterey Car Week in California later this month, and will be joined by the brand's first production model to take inspiration from the Pura Vision.
