An electric version of the Porsche Cayenne is set to join the brand’s line-up in 2026 – and we’ve just spotted the new electric SUV being put through its paces at the infamous Nürburgring race track.
-
The Porsche Cayenne EV will be the Stuttgart-based brand’s third bespoke electric car, following the Taycan and Macan EV. Porsche’s flagship K1 electric crossover is set to launch a year later.
-
The new spy shots of the electric Cayenne suggest that Porsche is testing the car’s suspension set-up, as all four wheel arches and the underbody are covered with solid foam.
-
Active aerodynamics are set to play a role in the Cayenne EVs technical make-up. Look closely at the front bumper and you can see that the flaps in the lower bumper were closed during testing.
-
While the car spied at the storied race circuit is heavily camouflaged, the Cayenne EV will have a similar look to the Macan EV, with a smooth exterior silhouette.
-
The Cayenne EV will use the same Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture as its Macan sibling and the new Audi Q6 e-tron.
-
This means that the future Cayenne EV will come fitted with 800V hardware for charging speeds of more than 270kW, like the Macan EV.
-
Such speeds could mean that the Cayenne EV could be recharged in just over 20 minutes.
-
Technical details are unknown, but it is likely that the all-electric Cayenne will launch with a similar set-up to the Macan EV, with a dual-motor powertrain and a 100kWh battery.
-
Porsche’s new modular prismatic batteries can be scaled up or down, however, depending on the car’s wheelbase, so the larger Cayenne EV could get a bigger pack for greater range and performance.
-
The Cayenne EV is set to play a major role in the firm’s plans to make electric models account for 80% of its sales by 2030.
