The Rimac Nevera R has been revealed as a limited-run, 2078bhp racetrack-honed monster and the fastest accelerating road car ever made.

Billed as the “alter-ego” to the standard Nevera, the R is a thoroughly revised and upgraded version of the regular Nevera, with more focused dynamics, a higher-performance battery pack, more power, better brakes and a fresh design.

Designed to obliterate corners and beat the standard Nevera's acceleration times, it has a set of straight-line and on-track performance figures that promise to be better than the standard Nevera.

These are: 0-62mph in 1.81sec and 0-124mph in a staggering 4.38sec, making it the quickest car in the world. Its top speed stands at 217mph, although this can be raised to 256mph at the discretion of the manufacturer. From a standstill, 186mph is reached in a record-breaking 8.66sec - 0.57sec faster than the standard car.

The electric hypercar - of which 40 will be made - uses a 108kWh battery pack in conjunction with four electric motors, giving it four-wheel drive. In total, it develops 2078bhp.

Rimac has not disclosed the car's total electric range, but given its extra power it will likely be less than the Nevera, which achieved around 250 miles on a single charge.

The car's overall design has been changed significantly over the Nevera, however, with a much sleeker, more aerodynamic profile at the front and tighter, more aggressive creases at the back.

Elsewhere at the back, the Nevera R sports a fixed, bumper-width wing, as well as a diffuser. Both are said to boost downforce over the standard car by 15% and increase aerodynamic efficiency by 10%.

Inside, it receives new colour and trim options such as painted carbon fibre and dashboard trims that match the exterior colours - colours which are personalised to each customer.

As standard, the car gets 20in alloys at the front and 21in sets at the rear, each shorn in Michelin Cup 2 tyres that have been developed specifically for the car. These are said to reduce understeer by 10%, increase lateral grip by 5%, and reduce its time around Italy's Nardo test track by 3.8sec; important accolades given its corner-bashing brief.
Rimac itself says the car is "ready to bend physics like never before".

Underneath, it has been given a new torque-vectoring four-wheel drive system which has been tuned for its Michelin tyres, and Rimac has also revised the traction control system to ensure it is more predictable and easier to handle in the wet.

Coupled with the extra 190bhp and carbon ceramic EVO2 brakes that have been uprated with a layer of silicone to improve stopping power, Rimac says the R “sets a new benchmark” for “driving excitement” on twisting B roads.

Company CEO Mate Rimac said: "Many (customers) were looking for a car that really emphasised the Nevera's cornering ability, using all the advanced technology on-board. We responded with the Nevera R: all the DNA of the record-breaking Nevera, but lighter, faster and more focused."
