Autonomous airport deliveries - say hello to the Ottobot

6 Jan 2022

It might look like an upmarket shopping trolley but the new Ottobot from US robotics firm Ottonomy is claimed to be the ‘world’s first fully autonomous delivery robot’.

Aimed at retail and restaurant sectors the Ottobot is capable of both indoor and outdoor deliveries.

Ottonomy has already partnered with CVG Airport in Cincinnati where the Ottobot is used to autonomously deliver food and retail items.

The firm has also agreed a deal with Presto, a company trying to add new technology to the restaurant sector. Presto will introduce the Ottobots at a number of its partnered restaurants in the coming months.

Ottobots create a digital map of the area in which they are operating in and constantly update their position while they are navigating autonomously to deliver an order.

Using Ottonomy’s navigation software, the US firm says the Ottobot can navigate through crowded and unpredictable environments.

"The pandemic has provided Ottobots a catalyst enabling a series of partnerships that allowed us to launch fully autonomous delivery for indoor deliveries, curbside deliveries and last-mile deliveries,” said Ritukar Vijay, CEO of Ottonomy.
