A tilting e-trike? Meet the Arcimoto Mean Lean Machine

25 Feb 2022

American electric vehicle manufacturer Arcimoto has unveiled its innovative new full-suspension Mean Lean Machine (MLM) – an tri-motor electric trike that's designed to tilt sharply when cornering to boost grip.

The firm already produces the FUV, a 75mph three-wheeled e-trike which is sold in several West Coast US states and has been used by delivery drivers and emergency responders.

Although full technical details of the MLM have yet to be confirmed the brand says its new electric bike will use tilting technology to ‘deliver a joyful experience unlike any other in the e-bike category’.

The all-wheel-drive MLM will have three electric hub motors, one on each wheel, with a pedal generator to create electricity.

Bob Mighell, Arcimoto's chief tilting officer – which means he's in charge of the tilting technology, rather than actually tilting himself – said that the new e-trike would be able to corner in the same way as a "regular e-bike with greater traction", adding that the MLM would have better braking and stability.

Arcimoto says the all-wheel-drive MLM will have three electric hub motors, one on each wheel, with a pedal generator to create electricity.

The Oregon-based firm added that the specification, range options, pricing and features would be unveiled later this year.

The new MLM is expected to launch in late 2022 and is likely to be sold in the US market only.
