Lime users will be able to take a free rental e-scooter to the polling station for the UK local elections next week.
No, you won’t actually be able to take a e-scooter into the polling booth with you – that would just be silly – but you will be able to claim two free journeys on Thursday May 5 using Lime’s fleet of e-scooters in London, Milton Keynes and Salford.
It is part of Lime’s global ‘Lime to the Polls’ initiative, which is designed to increase voter turnout by providing accessible transportation options. Users will be able to use the code LIMETOPOLLSUK in the Lime app to claim two free rides – one to the polling booth, and one for the return journey. The offer is open to both new and existing Lime customers.
Hal Stevenson, Lime’s UK public affairs boss, said: “Access to affordable transport should never create a barrier to voting, and we hope Lime users will ride to the polls and make their voices heard.”
The Lime to the Polls scheme was launched in 2018, and the firm claims more than 50,000 trips to polling stations have been taken using it worldwide.
Lime won the Breakthrough Award in this year’s Move Electric Awards in partnership with OVO Energy for its efforts in the development of its rental e-scooters and e-bikes.
