A British firm has launched a new electric charger that it claims will be the easiest to install and use, as well as potentially the cheapest.
The Evios charger is the work of a team led by David Martell, founder and former CEO of Chargemaster, prior to it being bought by BP in 2018.
When challenged on the superlative laden claims, he backs up his claims by citing his experience of developing fuss-free chargers, the integration of a new smartphone app so users can know how much they’ve charged and promising the simplest installation process possible.
“You can go online and book a morning or afternoon appointment for any day of the week – even at the weekend if you pay a little more,” Martell told Move Electric. “We want our installers to be our public face – the person who knows what you need and how to achieve it.
“We saw that as a huge advantage at Chargemaster and we will have the same focus on customer service now. With current stock levels anyone ordering today will have their charger installed within a month with no hassle.”
Prices start at £1195 including installation, or are available at £33 a month over three years so that buyers can factor monthly payments into their lease costs.
“In everything we’ve done, we’ve thought about making these charges as easy as possible to install, operate and pay for,” added Martell.
Technology advantages cited by Martell include the ability to link the charger to off-peak tariffs, integrate it with solar or wind chargers and to be linked to multiple electricity accounts, with use restricted via a four-digit pincode, so that a charge point can be shared by multiple users who pay their own bills.

Even with current energy price rises, Martell estimates that home charging remains at least half the price of fuelling a car or using high-speed public chargers and that at off-peak rates it can be as little as a tenth of the cost. “Our charger will help owners get the best rates all of the time,” he said, citing data that suggested effective use of the Evious charger could cost half the amount of a standard home charger.
The UK-built charger has been developed over the past two years in the UK, and will now be produced in Bedfordshire. “The home charging market is set to double in size every two years for the next eight years, so there is plenty of opportunity,” added Martell. “The key will be in standing out - and we believe that a focus on customer service and lowering costs will be one way to just that, just as it has been in the fuel retailing sector.”
First deliveries will start next month, with sales initially focused in the UK.
