Japanese car firm Toyota is to add two new large commercial vans - including a new battery electric model - after expanding its partnership with car giant Stellantis.
The new electric van will be Toyota’s first entry into the large commercial vehicle segment and will be built at Stellantis’s plants in Poland and Italy.
Toyota’s new vehicle - which will arrive in 2024 - will be the third body type under the new agreement, completing a full LCV line-up of compact, mid-size and now large models.
The Japanese firm said the new model “strengthens Stellantis’s light commercial vehicle scale in Europe” and is in line with the parent company’s Dare Forward 2030 initiative.
The two firms have co-produced light commercial vehicles since 2012, with Toyota’s mid-sized LCV manufactured at Stellantis’s Hordain factory in France.
This was followed by a compact LCV in 2019 which is built by Stellantis in Vigo, Spain.
“We are pleased that we can extend this successful partnership through the introduction of a new large commercial van,” said Matt Harrison, president and CEO at Toyota Motor Europe.
“The new LCV will be a key contribution to Toyota’s growth targets for our overall LCV line-up, alongside the Hilux pick-up, Proace and Proace City, enabling us to provide a mobility solution in all segments of the LCV market.”
