Citroën will launch a second limited-run version of the My Ami Buggy quadricycle next year – with 1000 of the beach-going machines set to be offered.
Originally shown as a one-off, the French firm put the My Ami Buggy into production earlier this year with an ultra-limited France-only run of 50 examples – which sold out in 18 minutes.
Citroën has now confirmed that a new limited run of 1000 models will go on sale next year. This time the models are set to be offered in multiple markets in which Citroën offers the Ami, but no news yet if that will include the UK. Fingers very crossed and all that.
The new machines will be based heavily on the original, but the firm said they would feature "a few surprises". Full details will be revealed in Spring 2023.
It’s worth celebrating that the My Ami Buggy concept has become a reality. We've loved it since we had the chance to drive it earlier this year (admittedly in a Coventry car park, rather than the south coast of France...) It’s effectively a rugged, off-road version of the Citroën Ami quadricycle featuring a number of special styling features.
Citroën My Ami Buggy: we drive tiny off-road concept
The original version of the My Ami Buggy mixes elements from the Pop and Vibe trim of the regular Ami, and adds in bigger front and rear bumpers, extra trim around the lights, wider wheel arches and a big rear spoiler. There’s black-tinted elements to give a robust feel, a Khaki yellow colour scheme, and 14in gold wheels.
There’s also hinged metal tubing in place of the doors – nicely open to the elements for a spot of beach-combing, that – and a removable soft-top roof that’s styled after classic Citroen models including the Mehari and 2CV.
Move Electric Innovation Award: Citroën Ami
The front of each of the 50 examples could be personalised, and each will also feature a special numbered ‘My Ami Buggy ULTRA LIMITED EDITION’ plate on the dashboard. And yes, Citroën has capitalised that, probably to remind the 50 buyers just how lucky they are.
Citroën Ami to be offered in UK on £19.99 monthly PCP deal
The signs are positive the new expanded run of My Ami Buggy models could reach the UK. Earlier this year Citroën UK boss Eurig Druce noted: “If there’s sufficient interest from customers here, then there’s every conceivable chance we could see future versions of My Ami Buggy on sale in the UK.”
