Delivery giant Amazon will greatly expand its use of electric cargo bikes for deliveries in central London after opening its first micromobility hub.
The new facility in Hackney will serve as a base for cargo e-bikes and walkers, which will operate in the borough in parallel with Amazon’s fleet of electric delivery vans.

Amazon claims more than five million deliveries a year will be made using those three options, in an area spanning more than 10 per cent of London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone.
A video released by Amazon shows deliveries being made using an quardicycle e-bike built by Oxfordshire firm EAV. According to The Guardian, at least some of the cargo e-bikes run from the hub will be operated by partner businesses, rather than directly by Amazon.
Amazon is poised to open more micromobility delivery hubs in other UK cities later this year.
John Boumphrey, Amazon’s UK manager, said: “Our new e-cargo bikes, walkers and growing electric vehicle delivery fleet will help us make more zero emission customer deliveries than ever before across London and the UK.”
Amazon says that its UK fleet includes more more than 1000 electric delivery vans, and the firm has also ordered five full-electric 37-tonne heavy goods vehicles.
