3ti solar charging operator signs up to Chargesafe

29 Jul 2022

3ti, the British tech firm behind the pop-up solar car park, has signed up to ChargeSafe, a new organisation that inspects and rates EV charging locations for safety and accessibility.

The firm’s Papilio 3 pop-up mini solar car park and charging hubs will undergo a 63-point check by ChargeSafe.

3ti says it the ChargeSafe inspection will ensure that “the design , location, facilities, functionality and accessibility of every charging hub”, meets the needs of all users.

ChargeSafe’s accessibility criteria has been been developed in line with the new draft guidelines from the British Standards Institute for accessible charging points.

Combined with specific safety criteria, from lighting and CCTV to nearby facilities and busy-ness, ChargeSafe’s rating system will provide drivers with more informed charging options for day and night.

The ChargeSafe criteria will be used to grade every charge point in the UK over the coming months.

In May, 3ti’s Papilio 3 mini solar car park installed at Surrey Research Park was inspected by ChargeSafe and achieved a rating of 4.09 out of 5.

ChargeSafe’s scores will be available to view on a public database, where charge point users will be able to view details of different charging devices.

“We created Papilio3 to meet the immediate need for convenient and sustainable destination and workplace charging and to encourage and inspire further take-up of electric vehicles,” said Tim Evans, founder and CEO of 3ti.

“Every EV driver should feel safe, secure and able to use our Papilio3 charging hubs and large-scale solar car parks. The ChargeSafe endorsement formalises that commitment and will become an invaluable public and commercial hallmark of quality.”

3ti’s mini solar EV Charing hub was created using a shipping container and features 12 electric car charging points.
