Electric car battery pioneer Storedot has reached a new milestone after its extreme fast charging (XFC) cells achieved 1000 consecutive charging cycles in production EV ready form.
The Israeli battery start-up recently started real-world testing of its radical ‘100in5’ battery cells, which the firm says can accept 100 miles of charge in just five minutes.
Storedot has now revealed that its fast charging cells repeatedly charged from 10 to 80% capacity in just 10 minutes, then were discharged for one hour before recharging.
The EV cells achieved more than 1000 charging cycles consecutively before degrading below the 80% of the original capacity threshold. Storedot added that no degradation occurred within the first 600 cycles when the cells were consecutively charged.
Earlier this year the firm achieved 1200 cycles for its extreme fast cells in prototype form. The firm is continuing its development of its XFC cells before they are shipped to OEM partners.
“Our product performance goal for 2022 was to reach 1000 cycles of consecutive extreme fast charging of 10 to 80 percent in ten minutes, with an energy density of at least 300Wh/Kg,” said Yaron Fein, StoreDot vice president for R&D.
“I am delighted to announce that not only have we achieved our target but have also exceeded it – and we already have in our labs enhanced formulation that allows us to show further improved performance. This is the first time ever that cell performance of this magnitude has been achieved.”
Storedot says it will continue to develop its silicon-dominant cells and is aiming to create a battery pack capable of delivering 100 miles after just two minutes of charging.
