The GMC Hummer EV is one the wildest, most overblown electric machines yet built, a super-sized and super-powered beast of a pick-up. But have you ever wondered what it would look like if it was reinvented as an e-bike?
Okay, you probably haven’t – but GMC and US e-bike firm Recon Power Bikes evidently have. They’ve teamed up to create the new GMC Hummer EV AWD E-Bike, which is modestly described as a “super e-bike” that has been “designed and built for total off-road dominance.”

Essentially, it’s a high-performance electric bike that’s designed for use both on and off-road – and with styling and branding that’s reminiscent of its bigger brother. But this isn’t just a design exercise: Recon has ensured the Hummer e-bike has plenty of performance.
Now, like the Hummer EV itself, the new e-bike is designed for the US market – where e-bike regulations are considerably more relaxed than here in the UK. So the Hummer EV AWD E-Bike gets a pair of 750W Bafang hub motors – which means it also has all-wheel-drive. Those motors can both deliver a peak of 1200W at peak, giving a total system output of 2400W.
The bike features three drive modes: Cruise (rear-drive only), Traction (front drive) and Adrenaline – which, as you probably guessed, engaged both motors for AWD. It has a top speed of “28mph plus”, and also puts out 160Nm of torque.
Power is drawn from an LG-supplied battery which runs at 48V and is 17Ah as standard, although a 21Ah – that’s just over 1kWh, for comparison – unit is available as an option. That gives it a range of between 40 and 50 miles.
There's also a Shimano eight-speed drivetrain that offers five levels of pedal assist and features a thumb-operated throttle, adjustable front suspension, four-piston hydraulic brakes and 4in puncture-resistant hybrid tyres
The GMC Hummer EV AWD E-Bike is available to reserve now priced from $3999 (£3450), with deliveries due to begin in December. GMC and Recon have said that it will be available “at GMC dealers worldwide”.
Based in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Recon Power Bikes was founded by a group of active, reserve and veteran military members, and specialists in making ultra-tough all-terrain e-bikes. Recon says that its products are particularly popular with law enforcement agencies and the military – with agencies in 47 US states currently using them.
