Italian electric sports car start-up Automobili Estrema has aiming to break the Nurburgring Nordschleife production EV lap record with the new Fulminea, a £1.7 million, 1500kW quad-motor hypercar.
The Modena-based firm, which was founded in 2020, says that the Fulminea will be the first in a new generation of EVs that have “all the characteristics of a race car”, with a focus on high-performance powertrains and cutting-edge technology.

The machine is powered by four electric motors that offer all-wheel-drive and combine for a peak output of 1500kW (2040bhp), resulting in an estimated top speed of around 217mph. It will also be capable of 0-199mph in less than 10 seconds. So you can expect the Fulminea to crack our list of the ten fastest accelerating EVs soon.
The 100kWh battery pack in the Fulminea sounds particularly innovative: Automobili Estrema says that it uses a ‘world-first’ hybrid battery pack that mixes solid-state cells with an ultra-capacitor.
The prismatic solid state cells are produced by ABEE and give a claimed energy density of 500Wh/kg, and weighs just 300kg. The total weight of the car is 1500kg. The firm says that the hybrid battery pack is needed for the high power output of the motors, but also allows for a claimed range of 323 miles.
The firm is aiming to produce just 61 examples of the Fulminea, each priced at £1.7 million. The first production model is set to arrive in June.
Automobili Estrema is then aiming to break the lap record for an electric sports car at the Nurburgring Nordschleife in September 2023. The current outright Nordschleife record for an EV is the 6mins 05.336secs set by the Volkswagen ID R prototype in June 2019. The EV sports car record is currently 6mins 45.90secs, set by the Nio EP9 in 2017.
