Audi launches wild new Dakar-inspired electric mountain bike

German car brand Audi will expand its range of e-mobility products with a new electric mountain bike, which will use battery technology from e-bike specialist Fantic.

Based on an enduro frame made from lightweight aluminium, the new two-wheeler has been designed to allow for a relaxed riding position in order to “react to obstacles and terrain ahead”.

Audi says its electric mountain bike is good for both touring and endurance riding, but highlights its “greatest strength” is downhill riding thanks to full suspension travel of 18mm and off-road tyres.

The Fantic battery pack has been integrated into the e-bike’s frame, with Audi’s new e-MTB featuring an exterior design inspired by the firm’s RS e-tron Dakar racing car.

Fantic’s 720Wh battery supplies power to a Bros S-MAG 250W motor which delivers up to 66lb ft of torque.

The Audi electric mountain bike features four assistance levels: Eco, Tour, Sport and Boost, with Eco programmed to deliver maximum efficiency, while Boost offers the maximum level of electrical assistance for challenging hill climbs.

A small digital display sits on the handlebars providing an overview of key data such as battery charge and speed.

“The Audi electric mountain bike in cooperation with Fantic is another fantastic example of how we can expand our mobility offering to customers that extends beyond the award-winning models they drive.”

Priced from £8499 in the UK, the Audi e-MTB will be sold through Audi Genuine Accessories.
