WAE Technologies has launched a new battery intelligence software called Elysia, to help manufacturers within the e-mobility sector boost the range and performance of their electric vehicles.
Aimed at the automotive, commercial and micro-mobility sector, the Elysia sub-brand will focus on helping firms optimise battery performance, while maintaining battery health.
The Elysia software has been divided into two parts: Elysia Embedded and Elysia Cloud Platform.
Elysia Embedded software runs on a battery’s hardware and provides manufacturers with six bespoke algorithms that are designed to help firm’s understand a battery’s state of charge more accurately.
The software can then be used to increase vehicle range, enable faster charging and maximise battery power and offer better performance. WAE says Elysia does this without compromising battery safety or battery life.
Wae says its Embedded algorithms will allow customers to “unleash untapped potential through intelligent ‘physics-informed’ models”, rather than relying on conventional battery management systems that require extensive data through testing.
In fact, WAE claims it’s able to add 10% more range, halve rapid charging times and improve battery life by 30% through its Embedded software.
“Poor understanding of batteries will lead to a more basic conservative control, which often leads to performance being left on the table for the customer,” said Elysia’s technical lead, Tim Engstrom.
“The industry needs to really understand what actually is better in the long term to really get to sustainable growth through electrification. We feel that battery management has lagged in this space and it's time for that really to catch up.”
Engstrom said that thanks to the adaptability of its algorithm-based Embedded software, the team was able to improve the lifespan and charging performance of a battery. By adjusting the charging profile of a battery that is used in current vehicles, the team got 60% more life for the same nine minute charging time.
The Elysia Cloud Platform meanwhile, is a cloud-based system which uses proprietary digital technology to duplicate a physical battery.
It has been designed to help OEMs and fleet owners turn data into more usable insights, enabling customers to extend battery life, enhance safety and protect residual values.
WAE says the Elysia Cloud Platform will provide a complete picture of the battery’s state of health, bringing “much-needed transparency”.
Commenting on the launch, Elysia’s commercial lead, Joe Jones, said: “The battery in any electric vehicle of any kind represents the single most valuable system by far. Better understanding of battery systems will transform how we manage them, in order to realise their full potential.
“Elysia’s unique capabilities offer unprecedented insight and foresight, unleashing untapped performance, life and safety to every electric vehicle, and every battery on the planet.”
Jones also highlighted that its software was scaleable and could be used, for example, by e-scooter rental firm’s to boost the range of its devices, right up to huge mining vehicles.
