London-based design studio Layer has unveiled the Pendler, an urban e-bike concept which showcases an innovative U-shaped frame design.
Layer’s e-bike concept, which was designed to reduce the complexities of urban community, is equipped with a 33 lb ft rear hub motor which is paired with a 250Wh removable battery.
The Pendler concept has a top speed of around 25km/h (15.5mph) in keeping with the current regulations surrounding electric bikes and promises a range of 70km (43 miles).
Layer says the concept combines “high performance technology with a finely crafted aesthetic”, with the U-shaped design allowing for easier riding in the stop-start, on-off riding environment of cities.
The Pendler comes with several detachable accessories, including a front and rear basket, that will enable users to carry shopping and luggage.
For added practicality, a phone dock has also been added that offers safe and easy access to the device even while riding.
Layer says the shortened wheelbase of the Pendler and the smaller 20-inch wheels allow for easier storage for when travelling on public transport.
The Pendler’s frame doesn’t fold but remains compact as the pedals and handlebars can be folded to further aid storage and make it easier to transport on buses and trains.
