David Beckham gifts electrified Jaguar XK140 to son and daughter-in-law

Some wedding gifts are certainly better than others. Sure, a new set of pans or a shiny set of cutlery is useful, but what if someone gifted you a restored, electric Jaguar XK140?

Well, former football player - and electric car conversion specialist Lunaz investor - David Beckham has done just that, presenting his son Brooklyn and daughter-in-law Nicola with a £350,000 electrified Jaguar two-seater to mark the couple's wedding.

Silverstone-based firm Lunaz takes high-end cars from manufacturers such as Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Aston Martin, Range Rover and Jaguar, and restores and re-engineers including swapping their petrol engine for an electric motor.

Earlier this year the firm announced that due to strong demand for its products, they had sold out of its production run of converted classics for 2022 and 2023.

In June 2021, Beckham announced he would be investing in the firm and commissioned Lunaz to build the bespoke Jaguar XK140 for his son’s wedding.

The clean-air classic was created, designed and built by the company’s 120 strong team at its factory in Silverstone.

Finished in a unique light blue colour, the electric classic Jaguar has a fully restored and up-cycled interior offered in light cream, while all the dials and switches reflect the original Jaguar design with subtle updates to provide information on battery level and to operate contemporary functions.

Lunaz is growing its operations and is to open a new facility adjacent to its current manufacturing plant. The new facility will be used for the firm’s production of Upcycled Electric Vehicles (UEVs), where used industrial vehicles such as rubbish collection trucks will be converted into electric vehicles.

Lunaz recently unveiled the world’s first fully electrified and up-cycled refuse truck. By up-cycling and electrifying, it claims it can help to save 80% of the embedded carbon versus replacing it with new.

Similar versions of the Jaguar XK140 are available to order from 2024, but with deliveries not expected to begin before January 2024.
