Xpeng G9 arrives in Europe as flagship SUV - and it could be coming to the UK

The Xpeng G9 has been launched in select European markets, joining an updated version of the P7 saloon in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and the Netherlands.

The Guangzhou-based firm's European expansion suggests a UK launch isn't far away. Speaking to Move Electric last year, Xpeng president and CEO Brian Gu did not rule out an entry into the UK market, but highlighted the brand's focus to launch the car in left-hand drive markets first.

Xpeng’s new G9 will uses the firm’s latest 800V silicon carbide battery, allowing the SUV to be charged at up to speeds of 300kW - lower than the 480kW for the Chinese-market car - allowing drivers to add up to 62 miles of range in just five minutes.

The firm says the G9's fast charging capabilities mean its 98kWh battery can be charged from 10-80% in just 20 minutes.

And due to its large battery the G9 - in RWD Long Range specification - can travel up to 354 miles between charges. The RWD Standard Range variant gets a smaller 78kWh battery which has a range of up to 286 miles.

Topping the range is the AWD Performance, a dual-motor version of the long range model which can do 0-62mph in just 3.9 seconds.

As standard models get double-wishbone suspension at the front and five-link suspension at the rear. The all-wheel-drive performance models come with dual chamber air suspension.

The G9 also features seven driving modes, including a boost mode that helps the vehicle reach maximum torque in 0.15 seconds.

Xpeng’s new SUV is also equipped with the firm’s latest full scenario Advanced Driver Assistance System, Xpoilot. The second-generation system uses 29 sensors, including high-definition millimeter-wave radars, and a front view camera to detect obstructions in the road.

The new SUV also has a new voice assistance system which can respond to more than 600 commands, while the G9 also debuts Xpeng’s 35 interactive user interface which operates through a 15 inch screen.

Xpeng says that both the G9 and P7 will support over-the-air (OTA) updates to the car's software and firmware.
