Truck manufacturer Scania has rolled out a new heavy electric truck to help two Swedish companies meet their sustainability targets.
As part of a pilot series designed to test the usability of battery electric trucks in heavy situations, Scania is working with environmental specialist Ragn-Sells and machinery service company, Foria.
Foria will be responsible for the operations of the truck, which will move fly ashes to be recycled at Ragn-Sells’ new plant.
The electric truck is already in operation, moving waste products from a power station in Mälardalen, near Stockholm, to Högbytorp for storage until a new facility is up and running.
Once the new Ragn-Sells facility is opened, Scania says the truck will work two shifts to decrease the number of internal combustion engine vehicles operating at the facility.
The electric truck can be fast charged when loading and unloading via two 160kW chargers supplied by engineering giant, ABB.
“Our new electric truck will be a part of a transport solution that enables a circular system.” said Fredrik Allard, head of power solutions at Scania.
“Now Foria is able to transport fly ashes from the thermal power station in Mälardalen to Ragn-Sells’ new facilities where valuable salts can be recycled and reused, without any emissions being generated by the truck.”
