The Mercedes EQA has been given an update, with the electric compact SUV gaining a more streamlined exterior, a bigger range and a host of new technologies to fend off rivals from BMW, Audi and Kia.
-
Set to arrive in the UK early next year, the new EQA gets a new front grille design which features the brand’s trademark star pattern to bring it into line with the EQE SUV and flagship EQS SUV.
-
The front bumper has been reconfigured to optimise aerodynamic efficiency, with a new LED light bar spanning the width of the new grille and joining the headlights.
-
At the rear the EQA’s tail lights now feature a 3D design motif, while the LED light bar is retained from the first-generation car.
-
Mercedes says it has adjusted the aero and added a new range-maximisation mode which shuts down certain systems to offer the best range possible. Low rolling resistance tyres have also been added.
-
This means the refreshed EQA has a claimed range of 347 miles, up from 260 miles. This means it can travel further than the Kia Niro EV (285 miles) and the BMW iX1 (270 miles).
-
The 67kWh battery is retained for all models in the EQA 250, 300 and 350, with power outputs ranging from 139kW to 214kW.
-
Move inside and the updates continue, with the EQA gaining the brand’s three-spoke steering wheel which was first used in the current generation S-Class.
-
The EQA also gets the firm’s latest MBUX infotainment system, which is displayed on two new 10.0in screens.
Mercedes has also updated the graphics for its screens, giving them a crisper look. The voice recognition system has also been improved to be more receptive to different languages.
-
The Stuttgart-based marque hasn’t given any details on pricing, but we expect the EQA to cost from around £50,000.
