The Goodwood Festival of Speed returned this week, with the much-loved motor show celebrating a diverse array of cars, both old and new.
But which electric cars caught our eye, and were there any machines making their public debut for the first time? Join us as we take a look at some of the best all-electric cars at the show.
-
Alpine A290
Based on the Renault 5, the new A290 will launch at the end of 2024 as an all-electric hot hatchback primed to take on the Mini Cooper SE.
The new A290 stays true to Alpine's lightweight philosophy, tipping the scales at 1479kg - that's 126kg lighter than the Mini Cooper. It will be offered in a choice of trims, with the range-topper featuring a 215bhp electric motor.
-
Ford Capri
The Ford Capri? That's right, the Capri has been reborn as a high-riding saloon-SUV, 38 years after the coupe bowed out of production.
It will sit alongside the Ford Explorer in the brand's line-up of EVs and is set to cost from £48,075 when it goes on sale later this year. The entry-level model uses a 77kWh battery and promises a range of up to 390 miles.
-
McMurtry Spierling Pure
Two years ago, the small electric single-seater shattered the Goodwood Hillclimb record in dazzling fashion.
McMurtry returned to the festival this year with the Spierling Pure, a 1000bhp road-going version of the record-breaking car that is nearly identical to the prototype that raced up the hill. And it uses the same fan that sucks the car into the ground for more downforce.
-
Lotus Evija X
Lotus created the one-off track focused X version of its 2000bhp electric hypercar to break records at the infamous Nürburgring race circuit.
The Evija X is almost identical to the standard car, but features a more radical aero package, including a huge rear wing.
-
Hongqi EH7
The Chinese luxury brand is aiming to launch its range of electric models in the UK by 2026, and debuted its latest electric saloon at this year's festival.
And while it is pitched as a luxury EV, the EH7 has more power to fend of most ICE cars. In dual-motor form, the EH7 develops 610bhp and 558lb ft of torque, for a 0-62mph time of 3.5sec.
-
Hongqi EHS7
Hongqi also showcased its latest large electric SUV, which uses the same powertrain as the EH7. It can be powered by either an 86kWh or 111kWh battery.
In dual-motor form, the EHS7 can travel up to 329 miles and be charged at up to 246kW.
-
MG Cyberster GTS
Following the launch of the MG Cyberster, the Chinese-owned brand is eyeing-up a coupe version to sit alongside its new electric roadster.
The modern interpretation of the MGB GT took to the hill in concept form, but a future production version could be on the cards - sister-title Autocar reported that the GTS could hit the road as early as 2025.
-
Polestar 6
The Polestar 6 electric roadster took to the Goodwood hill for the first time, but in prototype form. The stunning EV is set to join the brand's line-up by 2026.
It will use the same electric architecture and dual-motor powertrain as the inbound 5 saloon. In this format, the Polestar 6 develops 874bhp and 663lb ft for a 3.2sec 0-62mph time.
-
Polestar Concept BST
Polestar might be ramping up its line-up of EVs, but it still found time to produce a radical two-seat track-focused concept car for us all to drool over.
The Concept BST is based on the 6 roadster, but gets an extensively reworked exterior design for a more aggressive look. It features bonnet vents, a front splitter, wider wheel arches and track, and an outlandish rear wing.

BYD Yangwang U9
BYD is hoping to bring its luxury spin-off brand Yangwang to the UK in the future, and showcased its outlandish U9 supercar at this year's show.
The 1282bhp EV can sprint from 0-62mph in 2.3sec and can achieve a top speed of 192mph. It can also bunny hop by lowering itself down to the ground before thrusting itself back up into the air.
