Whether you enjoy camping out in the countryside or taking your mountain bike for a quick jaunt, we've found a range of electric vehicles that will fuel your inner adventurer, without leaving a footprint.
-
Kia EV6
Camping trips are a doddle with the EV6 thanks to its 490-litre boot, which allows you to squeeze in tents, sleeping bags and coolers. It also has a super-intelligent Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function which allows you to power appliances using the EV6’s battery using a special adapter that converts the charging port into a three-pin plug. Don’t be afraid to take the microwave and a kettle.
Range is up to 328 miles for the rear-wheel drive model, but if you seek road-going thrills, the 577bhp GT is the version of choice. Prices start from £45,245.
-
Skoda Enyaq
Skoda built an Enyaq camper called the FestEVal, which had a roof tent, a custom pull-out kitchen and a 333-mile range. Sadly, it was a one-off. Still, the entry-level Enyaq still has a 1,710-litre boot with the seats folded, which is perfect for packing with camping supplies.
If tents aren’t your thing, but you enjoy the camping in the great outdoors, you can opt for a Spacebed, supplied by SpaceforDreams. This gets you a 200cm x 200cm double bed that’s custom for the Enyaq, which makes use of that large boot. Enyaq prices start from £38,970.
-
Cake Kalk
Whether you’re smashing desert dunes, scrambling through fields or exploring a rainforest, the Cake Kalk’s 207lb ft electric motor and 56mph top speed will allow you to up your exploration game.
There are a few versions to choose from, such as the AP edition inspired by rangers in Africa, or the more urban friendly. The entry-level model is priced from £8,070. Its range is roughly 50 miles, which translates to around two to three hours of ride time, if driven sensibly - although we doubt many adventure types will be doing that.
-
Canyon Spectral
If you prefer exploring mountain trails and gaining outrageous speeds on downhill sections, then the Spectral e-bike will certainly catch your eye. It's priced from £4,599 and comes equipped with a pedal-assist motor and a choice of two batteries: a 50-mile 720Wh and a 62-mile 900Wh, the latter costing an extra £350.
The bikes are GPS enabled, allowing you to track the two-wheeler should it go missing.
-
KTM Freeride
KTM has a history of designing bikes for extreme sports, and its electric Freeride enables riders to scale rock faces, blast down dirt trails and manoeuvre challenging terrain, without producing an emissions.
By keeping the throttle open, it will hit around 50mph on the right surface thanks to its 12bhp motor and 110kg weight. It comes equipped with an adjustable front fork and rear shock, the latter giving 260mm of travel, as well as 21”/18” alloys, wrapped in grippy rubber. It starts from £11,370.
-
Munro Series M
There are very few tough and utilitarian electric off-roaders available today, but the Scottish-made Series M will empty puddles and traverse swamped fields with ease — it’s a car that looks better caked in mud.
It’s priced from around £60,000, and with some new technical trickery the range now sits at 200 miles, in comparison to the MK1s 186 miles.
-
Moonbike
Those who are more inclined to seek out glaciers or build speed on snow may find the electric Moonbike appealing. It uses the same concept as an ICE snow bike, but it uses a 4bhp electric motor, giving the 88.2kg Moonbike a top speed of 26mph.
You’ll be able to explore up to 15 miles of snowy landscape before charging, but if you need more, you can opt for a larger battery which doubles the range. It’s priced from £7,304.
-
XBus Camper
Another mobile accommodation that has as nearly as much quirk as a Volkswagen Samba Bus is the XBus Camper, which isn’t due till next year. It’s priced from below £30,000 although there is an off-road version available for just over £30,000.
Inside, you’ll find a sleeping area for two, a TV, kitchen, fridge and a hotplate. The 15kWh battery offers up to 124 miles of range although adventure seekers can upgrade to a 45kWh which gives 372 miles.
-
GoBoat
Is this the ideal boat for fishing, or has GoBoat created the first sea-worthy bumper car? We'll leave that debate for another day, but whatever you use the GoBoat for it will certainly deliver plenty of fun.
The boat comes with a five-speed electric motor, can carry up to 136kg and at the end of your cruise can be stored in a carry bag. It's priced from £570, although these are tailored around children and small adults. The larger boats start from £980.
-
Aerofoils e-tron
Described by its makers as a "competition board" the Aerofoils e-tron is a surfboard like no other. Why? Because it rises up out of the water on a hydrofoling wing. The battery is said to last up to two hours if you ride at a cautious 12mph. Step on the throttle and the e-tron should be able to reach a top speed of 31mph.
It comes with a remote control, allowing the surfer to change riding modes that are tailored for beginners or those with more experience. There are various options and colours available, starting from £11,599.
-
Evolve Hadean Skateboard
Evolve claims that its electric-powered skateboard balances personal mobility and... well, a skateboard. Depending on their needs, riders can choose from a £1,299 street board with small wheels and a flexible deck, or a £1,399 all-terrain off-road version with chunky tyres.
In entry-level form, you’ll be hitting 31mph flat out, but take it easy and you’ll get 40 miles of skateboarding joy.
-
Savage Coastrunner EV
Netherlands-based company Savage released a supercar in 2009 called the Roadyacht GTS, but after that, things went a bit quiet. That was until it teased its Coastrunner four-seater beach buggy at the end of last year.
It takes inspiration from the Mini Moke and is designed to get owners ‘from A to Beach’. It weighs 820kg and has a 66bhp single electric motor, giving it a top speed of 75mph. The first Coastrunners are set to be priced from around £56,000, but a second batch will drop to in 2025 with a price tag of £31,500.
-
EcoRider Explorer
There aren’t many electric all-terrain vehicles on the market today, but aiming to change that is EcoRider, a firm that offers three electric quad bikes: the Explorer, Explorer GT and the range-topping Explorer GTS.
Priced from £1,995, the entry-level model features a 1000W motor, allowing it to reach speeds of 25mph. EcoRider claims that it’ll return around 25 miles. It comes fully equipped with lights and a horn.
-
Kymera Jetboard
Designed for calmer waves rather than surfing, the Jetboard is used for riders to lie on and there is a toggle throttle for acceleration. In the right conditions, Kymera claims it’ll hit 20mph and that the rider will get anywhere between 25min and one hour of runtime on a single charge.
Charging from empty to 100% takes eight hours and it can be stowed in the back of your car. Prices start at £6,495.
-
Swincar e-Spider
The idea of this articulated off-road buggy is to allow the rider to ‘get closer to nature, the rocks, streams and sunset on the mountain peaks’.
The e-Spider is four-wheel drive, and its pendulum chassis tilts as the vehicle turns and ascends or descends on slopes. Swincar claims it’s good for 1000m of climbing and has a range of up to four hours. It’s priced from around £14,700.
-
EZRaider
Like the idea of quad biking but don’t have the space for an ATV? EZRaider may be worthy of your attention. It offers three vehicles: the LW, HD2 and HD4, the latter being four-wheel drive.
In entry-level form, it weighs just 95kg and it folds to 64cm in height, which means it will fit in the back of a car. The top speed is 25mph and it’ll manage roughly 22 miles on a single charge. It costs around £7,784.
-
GreenScout ATV
Meet the GreenScout ATV, a river-wading all-terrain amphibious vehicle. It can take six people and their luggage across some of the muddiest terrain.
All six wheels are driven by a 24bhp electric motor. It sits on a welded steel frame while the body is made from polyethylene.
-
Taiga Orca
160bhp, 2hrs of wave-smashing fun and top-up charging in just 40min. Prices start at around £14,500, but if you're looking to go even more crazy you can opt for a carbon fibre version which costs a hefty, £22,000.
Buyers can upgrade the charging system to a ‘Level 3’ charger and can buy a separate charging station.
-
Meyers Manx EV
What you're looking at here isn't a 1960s Meyers Manx. While it looks just like the original Bettle-based machine created by Bruce Meyers, this is in fact an all-new beach-going machine that is powered by electricity.
The new 2.0 Manx features two electric motors at the rear for a combined output of 202bhp. Buyers can have either a 20kWh 150-mile battery or a 40kWh 300-mile battery. Meyers says that it will be fully road legal when released and will be priced from under £60,000.
