Looking for a new e-MTB to hit the trails with this summer? Canyon has just launched four new hardtails as part of its Grand Canyon:ON range, with prices ranging from £2,899 for the Grand Canyon:ON 7, to £4,149 for the Grand Canyon:ON 9.
-
Who is the new Grand Canyon:ON aimed at?
A versatile e-bike, the Grand Canyon:ON is aimed at not only trail riders, but commuters and leisure riders too. Whether you’re riding on the roads, the forest or the trails, the Grand Canyon:ON is a lightweight aluminium option for multi-terrain riding.
-
Tell me more about the design
The frame is designed with an ‘all-day’ riding position, so it’s slightly less aggressive than a typical mountain bike, although the tech wouldn’t suggest so. It’ll come ready to be equipped with a kickstand, mudguards, and luggage racks if you want to make it a bit more utility focused.
-
What about the Grand Canyon:ON's set-up?
For the setup, there is 120mm of travel up front courtesy of either RockShox or Fox depending on the model, and 29” wheels with 2.6” tyres. On the Grand Canyon:ON 9, you even get Bosch’s eBIKE ABS system, which we tested out on the Canyon Pathlite:ON 9 LTD SUV step-through.
-
Will it help me carry me up hills?
Now onto the electrical assist – you get the Bosch Performance Line CX mid-drive motor and an accompanying PowerTube battery in the downtube. The motor provides torque of up to 85Nm so steep hills will no longer be an issue. Battery wise, the Grand Canyon:ON 7 model gets a 625Wh battery, and the rest get 750Wh.
-
Can I still have fun off-road?
Longer chainstays of 460mm (in the large size) and low position of the motor and battery mean that stability is increased, as well as confidence on the trail. This doesn’t, however, mean it’s at the detriment of climbing ability, which is helped by the 75 degree seat tube angle and balanced geometry.
-
Are there any other useful features?
Given it’s equipped with Bosch’s latest tech, this also means you can use the eBike Flow app. This connects you to your bike and allows you to dial in your assist settings, and send routes from Komoot to your Kiox display for navigation.
It also means you can use the eBike Alarm function to arm your e-bike if you need to leave it anywhere in public. There is a free 12-month subscription included with your purchase, but after that it costs €39.99 per year or €4.99 per month.
-
When can I get one?
The bikes will also be available in a range of colours – although the options are dependent on model of Grand Canyon:ON. They are available to order now through the Canyon website with a range of sizes and colours in stock or coming soon.
