It’s almost time for the long-awaited, highly-anticipated 2024 Paris Motor Show, which next week will return for yet another year.
The event is set to be packed with the reveals of some of the most important new cars and concepts you have ever seen, with public debuts expected from brands such as Renault, Alfa Romeo, Kia, Citroen and Mini. Chinese brands including BYD, GAC and Xpeng will be out in full force, as was the story back in 2022.
Without further ado, then, let's take a look at each of the most important new cars you should look out for - all in alphabetical order.
-
Alpine A390 Beta
Even a brand like Alpine isn't immune to SUVs, and the A390 Beta will be its first entrant into the fiercely contested category. Complete with a rakish, coupé-like silhouette, the final road-going A390 is set to closely resemble the concept that will be revealed at Paris, and it will launch as a rival to the Porsche Macan Electric.
-
Alpine Alpenglow Hy6
It might not be electric, but this new test bed for hydrogen combustion engines admits zero emissions whatsoever. First unveiled in 2022, the Alpenglow is expected to use a bespoke V6 engine instead of the previously-mooted four-cylinder unit. This means it will likely have a power output beyond the 335bhp of the four-cylinder engine.
-
Citroen Ami update
Citroen is giving its smallest electric offering - and one of the smallest electric cars in the world - a mid-life update. Unfortunately, Citroen would not reveal specific details as to what they have changed for this latest generation, but you can expect to see some technical upgrades combined with a subtly tweaked exterior design. More range, perhaps? More power? All will be revealed in Paris.
-
Leapmotor B10
Leapmotor recently made an introduction to the UK market with the C10 SUV and T03 city car (pictured above), the latter of which is claimed to be one of the most affordable electric cars in its segment. But the Chinese brand is going to extend its line-up with the B10, an electric SUV that will rival the likes of the Kia EV3 and Volkswagen ID 3.
-
Mini John Cooper Works EV
Mini's storied tuning division John Cooper Works (JCW) is expected to launch its first ever electric cars, with hotter versions of the Cooper hatchback and Aceman crossover. Details suggest both cars will be fitted with a 255bhp electric motor, which will be combined with more aggressive styling, bigger alloys and blacked-out grilles.
-
Mobilize Bento and Mobilize Duo
Renault is preparing to reveal the spiritual successor to the Twizy: the Mobilize Bento cargo van and Mobilize Duo two-seater. The tiny electric cars will be available in two versions: one with a top speed of 28mph, the other maxing out at 50mph. Both are said to have an electric range of 87 miles.
It has been said that the cars will not be available to the general public, instead being offered through a dedicated app that will allow customers to rent the cars for the short term.
-
Peugeot e-3008 Long Range and Peugeot e-5008 Long Range
A new, larger 96.9kWh battery pack mens that Long Range variants of the new e-3008 and new e-5008 will be added to the French brand's line-up. Both will offer ranges of 435 miles and 415 miles, respectively, but are expected to remain identical in terms of exterior and interior design. No information on pricing has become available as of yet.
-
Peugeot e-408
Closely related to the smaller e-308, the new e-408 draws power from an electric motor combined with a larger 58.2kWh (usable) NMC battery pack – unique within the Stellantis group. The rakish 408's slippery design helps the EV to achieve a range of 281 miles, with 4.6mpkWh efficiency. The battery can accommodate charging speeds of up to 120kW.
-
Renault 4
As previewed by the 4Ever Trophy concept in 2022, the new Renault 4 is ready to make its debut at Paris. It will be offered with an optional retractable fabric roof, and it will also be the first Renault to feature a backlit front emblem. Elsewhere, its exterior design will reference that of the original 4, with a roof-mounted mini spoiler, trapezoidal rear quarter windows, and sculpted lines on the door sills. At 4.14 metres long, it's a similar size to the Vauxhall Mokka.
It will share its underpinnings with the 5, which means it's expected to be offered with three single-motor, front-wheel drive powertrains with outputs of 4bhp, 121bhp and 148bhp. Two battery packs are likely to be available of 40kWh and 52kWh in capacity.
-
Renault R17 Electric Restomod x Ora Ito
Revealed in early September, the 17 is positioned as a modern iteration of the 1971 original, complete with a 270bhp electric motor mounted on the rear axle. While no performance figures have been released, Renault says that it is substantially faster than the original combustion car. Meanwhile, the carbonfibre chassis is said to keep the kerb weight down to just 1400kg - less than that of the Lotus Emira.
As of yet, Renault has not alluded to any plans of a production version.
-
Renault Embleme
Much like the Alpine Alpenglow we saw earlier, the Embleme is actually powered by hydrogen. This sleek, svelte coupé SUV is Renault’s idea of how hydrogen-fuel-cell power could offer long-range transport while slicing carbon emissions. We will have to wait until later this month to see the car's interior, but Renault will be showing the Embleme's full exterior design at Paris.
-
Renault Twingo
Set to go on sale in 2026 and costing less than £20,000, the Twingo EV will arrive with “best-in-class” efficiency and serve as a key part of an expanded European line-up of seven EVs.
Set to sit underneath the 5 and 4, the Twingo will make its public debut at Paris and will undoubtedly be one of the hottest, most exciting reveals of the day. Renault Group boss Luca de Meo described the new Twingo as a "silver bullet for sustainability mobility" and a key in the firm's quest for an affordable EV.
-
THK LSR-05
We'll forgive you if you haven't heard of this one. THK is a Japanese parts supplier owned by renowned designer Shiro Nakamura, who originally sketched the Nissan GT-R.
His latest creation, the LSR-05, is a four-seat coupé-SUV designed to show off the company’s latest technological developments. It is powered by three electric motors: two 125bhp units mounted in the rear wheels and one 295bhp unit mounted across the front axle. If it enters production, it will be one of the first cars with in-wheel motors. What's more, it's expected to have wireless charging.
You can expect to see this car make its first public debut at Paris.
