The 2024 Paris motor show is now in full swing.
So far, the event has been packed with the public debuts of some of the most influential new cars and concepts you have ever seen, with reveals from brands such as Renault, Alfa Romeo, Kia, Citroen and Mini. Chinese brands including BYD, GAC and Xpeng were also out in full force, as was the story back in 2022.
Now that we're halfway through this year's event, we thought we would compile each of the biggest, most important new EVs which have been revealed.
Without further ado, then, and in alphabetical order, let's take a look at each of them.
-
Alpine A390 Beta concept SUV
Even a brand like Alpine isn't immune to SUVs, and the A390 Beta concept previews its first entrant into the fiercely-contested category. Complete with a rakish, coupé-like silhouette, the final road-going A390 is set to closely resemble this concept, which it will launch as a rival to the Porsche Macan Electric.
Alpine has given the A390 Beta concept a futuristic design as well as new alloys, the design of which is said to be inspired by snowflakes and has a central logo made to resemble a piece of jewellery. Notably, the logo only lights up when the car's torque vectoring system is working - a function confirmed for the final production car.
-
Alpine Alpenglow Hy6
It might not be electric, but this new test bed for hydrogen combustion engines admits zero emissions whatsoever. First unveiled in 2022, the Alpenglow uses a bespoke, Alpine-developed V6 engine instead of the previously-rumoured four-cylinder unit. This means it produces 730bhp compared to the 335bhp produced by the four-cylinder engine. Oh, and it revs to 9000rpm.
-
BYD Sea Lion 07
The Sea Lion 07 is BYD's latest coupé SUV, designed to rival the likes of the Volvo EC40 and Porsche Macan Electric. It majors on its advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and range figures well above 300 miles.
-
New Citroen Ami
Citroen is giving its smallest electric offering - and one of the smallest electric cars in the world - a mid-life update. Its new “sympathetic and more mature” look brings vent-like grooves on the front wings, black ‘eyelids’ on the headlights housings and a smile-shape indentation in the housing of Citroën’s new logo
Underneath, however, the car remains the same as its predecessor.
-
Citroen C5 Aircross concept
Citroen has revealed a new concept to preview the second-generation Citroen C5 Aircross, which is set to be dramatically overhauled.
With a muscular, aerodynamic design similar to that of the Oli concept in 2022, the C5 Aircross Concept is said to have been conceived with interior space and range efficiency as the main priorities.
Complete with a lowered nose, flatter rear, raked roofline, and protruding 'floating' rear lights, the concept is said to be slippery enough to make for 19 more miles of motorway range than what the current-shape C5 Aircross would achieve if electrically powered.
-
Leapmotor B10
Leapmotor recently made an introduction to the UK market with the C10 SUV and T03 city car, the latter of which is claimed to be one of the most affordable electric cars in its segment. But the Chinese brand is going to extend its line-up with the B10, an electric SUV that is the brand’s first global model. It will rival the likes of the Kia EV3 and Volkswagen ID 3, with a price of £30,000 in the UK.
-
Mini Aceman John Cooper Works EV
John Cooper Works (JCW), Mini's storied tuning division, has launched its first ever electric cars, the Cooper hatchback and Aceman crossover. Both cars have the same front-mounted electric motor which means they produce the same amount of power - 254bhp - but because it is heavier, the Aceman is half a second slower to 62mph. However, it is still treated to the same styling paraphernalia as its smaller counterpart, with deeper front and rear bumpers, alloys up to 19in in size, and JCW racing emblems.
-
Mini Cooper John Cooper Works EV
JCW’s other offering, the Cooper, makes use of a front-mounted, 254bhp electric motor which makes for a 0-62mph time of just 5.9sec. This is combined with more aggressive styling, bigger alloys and blacked-out grilles.
Underneath, both the Cooper and Aceman get stiffer suspension and grippy tyres designed for fast cornering.
-
Mobilize Bento
The Mobilize Bento cargo van made its public debut at Paris, alongside its passenger variant - the Duo - which we describe in the next slide. It trades the Duo’s second seat for a load bay with a capacity of 649 litres.
It's available only in L7 guise and its range is slightly reduced from the Duo's, at 93 miles.
-
Mobilize Duo
The Duo is an electric quadricycle like the Citroën Ami that has been designed to offer the creature comforts of a full-size car. For instance, it gets Bluetooth and USB-C phone connectivity, air conditioning, a heated seat and an airbag. This makes it more generously-equipped than the Ami.
The Duo is powered by the 48V motor used in the Renault Austral mild hybrid. Renault has yet to disclose a power figure for the unit, but claimed it provides “strong acceleration” up to town speeds. It will be available in two versions: one with a top speed of 28mph, the other maxing out at 50mph. Both are said to have an electric range of 100 miles.
It has been said that both the Bento and Duo will not be available to the general public, instead being offered through a dedicated app that will allow customers to rent the cars for the short term.
-
Peugeot e-3008 Long Range and Peugeot e-5008 Long Range
A new, larger 96.9kWh battery pack mens that Long Range variants of the new e-3008 and new e-5008 will be added to the French brand's line-up. Both will offer ranges of 435 miles and 415 miles, respectively, but are expected to remain identical in terms of exterior and interior design. No information on pricing has become available as of yet.
-
Peugeot e-408
Closely related to the smaller e-308, the new e-408 draws power from an electric motor combined with a larger 58.2kWh (usable) NMC battery pack – unique within the Stellantis group. The rakish 408's slippery design helps the EV to achieve a range of 281 miles, with 4.6mpkWh efficiency. The battery can accommodate charging speeds of up to 120kW.
-
Renault 4
As previewed by the 4Ever Trophy concept in 2022, the new Renault 4 has been revealed as a retro-inspired tribute to the original, iconic 4 from 1961.
It will share its underpinnings with the 5 supermini, which means it's expected to be offered with three single-motor, front-wheel drive powertrains with outputs of 4bhp, 121bhp and 148bhp. Two battery packs are likely to be available of 40kWh and 52kWh in capacity.
Its exterior design will reference that of the original 4, with a roof-mounted mini spoiler, trapezoidal rear quarter windows, and sculpted lines on the door sills. At 4.14 metres long, it's a similar size to the Vauxhall Mokka. It will be offered with an optional retractable fabric roof, and it will also be the first Renault to feature a backlit front emblem.
-
Renault R17 Electric Restomod x Ora Ito
Revealed in early September, the 17 is positioned as a modern iteration of the 1971 original, complete with a 270bhp electric motor mounted on the rear axle. While no performance figures have been released, Renault says that it is substantially faster than the original combustion car. Meanwhile, the carbonfibre chassis is said to keep the kerb weight down to just 1400kg - less than that of the Lotus Emira.
As of yet, Renault has not alluded to any plans of a production version.
-
Renault Embleme
Much like the Alpine Alpenglow we saw earlier, the Embleme is actually powered by hydrogen. This sleek, svelte coupé SUV is Renault’s idea of how hydrogen-fuel-cell power could offer long-range transport while slicing carbon emissions. We will have to wait until later this month to see the car's interior, but Paris saw Renault showing the Embleme's full exterior design.
-
Renault Twingo
Set to go on sale in 2026 and costing less than £20,000, the Twingo EV will arrive with “best-in-class” efficiency and serve as a key part of an expanded European line-up of seven EVs.
Set to sit underneath the 5 and 4, the Twingo made its public debut at Paris and was one of the event’s hottest, most exciting reveals. Renault Group boss Luca de Meo described the new Twingo as a "silver bullet for sustainability mobility" and a key in the firm's quest for an affordable EV.
-
Skoda Elroq
The new Elroq is Skoda’s third electric car, which the brand will use to steal sales from some of the car industry’s biggest players, including Volvo and Kia. Due to open for order on 18 October, the Elroq will be capable of up to 360 miles of range in its highest specification.
-
THK LSR-07
We'll forgive you if you haven't heard of this one. THK is a Japanese parts supplier owned by renowned designer Shiro Nakamura, who originally sketched the Nissan GT-R.
His latest creation, the LSR-07, is a four-seat coupé-SUV designed to show off the company’s latest technological developments. It is powered by three electric motors: two 125bhp units mounted in the rear wheels and one 295bhp unit mounted across the front axle. If it enters production, it will be one of the first cars with in-wheel motors. What's more, it's expected to have wireless charging.
