Korean car firm Genesis has unveiled its new X Speedium Coupe concept - a bold new electric car that hints at the firm's future all-electric line-up.
The sleek, performance-oriented concept from the premium car maker was revealed at this year’s New York Motor Show, with the brand’s chief creative officer, Luc Donckerwolke, describing the new X Speedium Coupe as a "freestyle" design exercise, based on last month’s Genesis X concept.
Genesis says the name of the new concept was inspired by a Korean race track, with the firm adding that Speedium encapsulates the "emotional value of driving", as the firm continues to develop and build new electric models.
The car maker says it followed "the principle of reductive design" or "less is more" when developing the X Speedium Coupe.
Like the X concept, the X Speedium Coupe is a low-slung EV with a long-wheelbase layout and rakish roofline.
At the front is a signature twin light bar which resembles the Genesis crest grille, as seen on its current line-up of models. The brand says the new light grille "symbolises Genesis' transformation towards becoming an all-electric car brand with a six-model lineup by 2030".
The rear shares much of its design with the current GV60 and GV70 models and features slim twin light bars, while Genesis says it has deliberately chosen an ‘anti-wedge’ design that delivered a more streamlined body shape.
The Korean marque also confirmed that the new electric GV70 SUV will be built at the brand’s new factory in Montgomery, Alabama, with production set to begin at the end this year.
