Lotus has unveiled a new robotic electric car charger at the Shanghai motor show, which the firm says can charge at speeds of up to 500kW.
The robotic charger was shown in operation at the show, with the robot showcasing its abilities by automatically plugging itself into a Lotus Eletre SUV.
The as-yet-unnamed charger will be offered as part of a fleet of 50 units, with the charger supporting all electric vehicles. It is not yet known if the ultra-fast charger will be offered in the UK.
Other brand’s have launched similarly fast chargers of their own, with Xpeng unveiling its 480kW charger alongside the launch of its new G9 SUV. However, when it arrives in the UK it will be limited to 300kW.
ABB’s Terra 360 charger is currently the fastest device in the UK, putting out – you guessed it – 360kW of power, and is available at the Gridserve Electric Forecourt in Braintree, Essex.
Lotus – which is now owned by Chinese car giant Geely – is likely to launch the new charger alongside its new faster-charging electric vehicles.
