Lucid Air gains 772kW Grand Touring Performance model

12 Apr 2022

American electric car start-up Lucid has added a Grand Touring Performance model to its line-up of Air electric saloons - which the firm says is the most powerful EV in North America.

The Lucid Air was launched in 2020 as a 1080hp saloon and has a claimed range of more than 500 miles. Last year the firm announced the Air had entered production at its factory in Casa Grande, Arizona, with the top-spec, limited-run, Dream Edition being the first models off the line.

The firm has now added the Grand Touring Performance to sit between the Dream Edition and Grand Touring models.

The new version features dual electric motors producing a total output of 772kW (1035bhp), allowing for a 0-62mph time of just 2.6secs, and up to 446 miles of range.

This is slightly less than the claimed range achievable in the Grand Touring, which can travel up to 516 miles between charges. It has a peak power output of 611kW (819bhp) and a 0-62mph time of 3.0secs.

As standard, both models get a ‘windscreen-roof’, a glass canopy which runs from the bonnet to the rear of the car and covers the entirety of the cabin.

Inside the car gets a 5k resolution 34 inch screen, heated seats, LED headlights and Dreamdrive pro - Lucid’s advanced driver assistance system which has over 30 different features.

The Grand Touring Performance gets a bespoke 'aero sport' wheel design and is available in five exterior colours.

All Lucid Air models have ultra-fast charging capabilities, allowing the car to be topped up at up to speeds of 350kW. Lucid claims this can add up to 300 miles in as little as 21 minutes.

The new Grand Touring Performance car starts from $179,000 (£137,000) in the US. It will not go on sale in the UK.
