Audi has previewed a new luxury off-road electric crossover concept, which is called the Activesphere and is due to be unveiled in full early next year.
The new concept is the fourth in a family of models that Audi has unveiled since 2021, following the Skysphere sports coupe, Grandsphere executive saloon and the Urbansphere MPV.
As with those three machines, the Activesphere is designed to be capable of autonomous driving, and is designed to showcase "the premium mobility of tomorrow". Audi adds that the new concept if designed for both on and off-road use, and "will offer maximum variability for an active lifestyle".
The teaser image shows that the machine features large wheels, with sleek bodywork and narrow headlights. No technical details have yet been revealed, although the three previous 'sphere' concepts were all designed for Level Four 'hands-off' autonomous driving.
While strictly a concept, as with its predecessors the Activesphere likely hints at a future Audi production model. As with those machines it will likely use Audi's premium PPE bespoke electric platform.
The Urbansphere uses a 120kWh battery, offering a range of up to 466 miles, while the Skysphere is tipped to use an 80kWh battery. The Activesphere could also offer plenty of performance: the powertrain in the Grandsphere is said to produce 530kW and 708lb ft of torque.
More details are set to be revealed early in 2023.
