The number of public electric car charging points has increased by almost a third in the last year, according to new Government data - but regional disparities are still common across the UK charging network.
Using data supplied by Zap Map - a public charging map service - the Department for Transport revealed that as of 1 July there were 32,011 public EV chargers available in the UK.
Year-on-year that shows an increase of 31%, with more than 7600 chargers having been added to the network.
Data also revealed that of the new devices added, 1423 were rapid chargers, also representing a 31% increase compared to July 2021.
Earlier this year the UK government announced plans to boost the number of public EV chargers more than 10 times to 300,000 by the end of 2030, as part of its huge £1.6 billion Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Strategy.
Despite the growth in the number of devices, the spread of public charges across the UK is still an issue.
Since April, the number of devices have risen from 111 to 116 per 100,000 people in London, but the UK average is far lower, with 48 public chargers per 100,000.
Further north the numbers are even more alarming, with the north-west and Yorkshire having just 27 and 29 devices per 100,000 respectively.
Northern Ireland meanwhile still has the lowest charging provision, with just 17 devices per 100,000 people.
In contrast, there is a greater spread of rapid devices across the UK, with Scotland having 14.2 rapid devices per 100,000. The north-east has more rapid devices than the capital, with 10.5 per 100,000.
In 2021, more than one in nine cars sold in Britain were fully electric, with buyers snapping up more electric cars than they had in the previous five years combined.
This is expected to rise dramatically as the UK approaches the 2030 ban on petrol and diesel cars.
