Looking for the joys of a convertible and the gleeful experience of emission-free driving? Mini has a solution in the form of a drop-top Mini Electric.
The one-off version - which heartbreakingly won’t be heading for the production line (boo) but which is a test bed for potential future production - is based on the Mini Cooper S Convertible but uses the Mini Electric powertrain.
The car will be shown in public for the first time at the “Mini Takes the States” event in the USA.
Mini says the car “serves as a unique example” of how the path “to becoming an all-electric premium brand”, could continue in the future.
The Mini Electric convertible uses the same 135kW electric motor which is good enough for a 0-62mph jaunt in 7.7 seconds.
With the same 145 miles of range as the Mini Electric hatchback, Mini says the car is good enough for urban commutes as well as journeys “beyond city limits”.
The textile roof can be opened within 18 seconds, with the soft top also being retractable on the move when driving at up to 18mph.
Mini is aiming to be the first BMW Group brand to go fully electric by the early 2030s.
