Glimpse at the new Maeving RM1 and you might mistake it for a classic cafe racer motorbike. Look a little harder, however and you will find that sitting in the middle of the frame isn’t a conventional petrol engine but a revolutionary removable battery.
The retro-styled e-motorbike is the first production model from new British start-up firm Maeving and is hand-built in Coventry.
Weighing just 98kg the bike is lightweight and has a top speed of 45mph, although you can opt for a 28mph version.
The bike can carry up to two batteries each offering 40 miles of range, giving a maximum range of up to 80 miles, depending on how and where you ride it.
Most importantly, the 10kg batteries can be removed and can be charged using a domestic plug socket allowing users to charge from their office or home.
Maeving co-founder Seb Inglis-Jones said that the RM1 is designed to "accelerate the electric revolution in the two-wheeled space." He added: "It breaks through the barriers of electric travel, propelling more people to make the switch.
“After several years of development and testing, I am incredibly excited to see our bikes take to the road and for our users to become part of a trailblazing community, pioneering the future of travel.”
Maeving’s new RM1 costs £4995 with buyers able to purchase an additional battery for £1195. The British brand has already sold the first 100 bikes with more set to be made available to order in 2022.
