It would appear that computer giant Acer is trying to take over the world of two-wheeled electric mobility: just days after unveiling its first electric bike, the Taiwanese firm has now launched a new Predator Extreme off-road electric scooter.
The new machine has been developed by the Acer Gadget division, and the firm claims it is designed to offer the power and performance of an off-road motorbike. It’s certainly potent, with a maximum output of 700W, 29Nm of torque and the ability to scale 16 per cent gradients.

The Predator Extreme features an iron frame, and offers dual suspension and a rear spring shock absorber for added stability and off-road ability. Acer claims the sturdy design even makes it suitable fir wheelies, jumps and other stunts, while three drive modes give it a top speed of 15.5mph.
Power comes from a replaceable 7.5Ah battery that gives a range of 13.7 miles. The battery can be charged in around 3.5 hours.
The Predator Extreme was unveiled at the Taipei Cycle 2023 show, and it’s unlikely that you’ll see it in the UK anytime soon. At present, while it is legal to buy a private e-scooter, it is illegal to use one on public roads. The UK government has been considering plans to legalise the machines, although that is currently stalled in parliament. But officials have previously indicated that any private e-scooter regulations will likely closely follow those for rental e-scooters, which have a maximum power output of 500W.
Still, Acer Gadget did have one electric machine on display at Taipei Cycle that would be suitable for sale in the UK: the slightly bonkers eKinekt BD3. It’s basically an exercise bike with a desk on it that you can rest your laptop or other devices on – and you then use pedal power to charge up your gadgets.
There’s also a handy cup holder to keep your drink stable when you’re pedalling, although we’d recommend you be very careful: if you spill coffee over your laptop it won’t matter how much you’ve managed to charge up the battery…
