All-new boat brand Veer is hoping to make a splash in the world of electric boats with the launch of its first model, the X13.
The electric boat start-up debuted its new vessel at this year’s CES show in Las Vegas, with the X13 pitched as a more affordable, emission free alternative to a petrol-powered outboard.
Veer has been launched by parent company Brunswick, which owns a number of boat manufacturers including Bayliner, Sea Ray and outboard maker, Mercury Marine.
“Recreational boating and fishing are enjoying increasing popularity with younger and more diverse consumers,” said Matt Atilano, Veer director of strategy.
“We identified a gap in the marketplace and a need to create a more targeted and modern experience for these new boaters, which inspired the design and development of the Veer brand.”
Veer’s first model will be powered by sister-brand Mercury’s Avator 7.5e electric propulsion system - the first product in the Avator series. The Avator 7.5e outboard has a power output of 750W and can run for around 45 minutes at full throttle.
Veer says the Avator propulsion system offers “quiet, all-electric power, integrated with intuitive controls and advanced digital displays.”
Designed by a team of engineers from fellow Brunswick-owned firm Lund Boats, the X13 will arrive as a 13-foot, multi-tool vessel built from durable rotomolded polyethylene.
The X13 will get a number of fishing-focused features, as well as a shallow-water anchor, mooring cover and standing bar.
The new electric boat will start from $11,995 (£9890), with order books set to open in Spring 2023. It is not yet known if the new Veer will be available in the UK.
