New Proxima is a last-mile delivery van using REE's innovative tech

25 Jul 2022

The new Proxima Powered by REE, a new ‘step-in’ electric delivery van developed by automotive tech firm REE Automotive, electric power chassis firm EAVX and American van body manufacturer Morgan Olson, has begun customer evaluations.

The latest electric van to enter the fast-growing last-mile delivery market – think all those vans stuffed full of parcels you see driving around in cities – that Proxima has been developed to reduce the total cost of ownership for businesses – and features some interesting tech.

The Proxima features a body developed by EAVX and Morgan Olsen paired with REE’s flat modular chassis and ‘x-by-wire’ technology. The platform has REEcorners, with the key drivetrain components fitted into the arch of each wheel which allows for a totally flat chassis. The x-by-wire system means all those components are controlled electronically, with no mechanical connection, making it even more compact.

The firms claim that the combination of the Proxima body and REE platform leads to a reduction in drag of nearly 60 per cent, while the low load floor makes it easier to load and unload quickly. The chassis also offers claimed greater visibility, and the firm claims that the REEcorners improve repair times because they can be rapidly swapped.

REE boss Daniel Barel said that the demonstration events “will convey the value and efficiencies REE’s x-by-wire technology can bring to fleets, as well as the power of pairing this revolutionary chassis with EAVX and Morgan Olson’s high-tech body.”

Full technical details of the Proxima have yet to be released, but it is likely to be offered in multiple configurations given the flexibility of the REE platform. That can offer power outputs ranging from 35 to 300kW, and accommodate payloads of up to 5000kg.
